A few decades ago a group
of young Californian surfers came up with the idea to try doing the
thrilling sport of surfing on the streets instead on the wild ocean
waves. What seemed like a rather ridiculous idea at first glance led
to the development of one of the most popular outdoor sports-
skateboarding. Since its beginnings on the streets of California
when the first passionate skaters rode their simple self-made
skateboards, the skateboarding culture has evolved a lot. These days,
skateboarding is much more than just a thrilling sport, for many it's
a special lifestyle that requires dedication and continuous training.
The main thing that makes skateboarding so popular is its ability to
provide both a fun adventure and a healthy form of exercise, all
while allowing you to explore the urban environment from a unique
perspective.
The first skateboards was
manufactured in 1959 and had a simple design with clay wheels. During
the 1960s the popularity of skateboarding was on the rise, not just
in the U.S., but worldwide as well. In Norway for instance, as the
sport was becoming more and more popular, injuries due to riding a
skateboarding were on the rise and as a result the government banned
practising the sport. This didn't prevent Norwegian skaters to ride
their boards in remote areas where they even built ramps so they can
do tricks. Nowadays, skaters don't have to built ramps secretly in
secluded areas since they can simply buy skateboard ramps in all
kinds of sizes and shapes. When you decide to buy skateboard ramps
you can choose from a quality selection of different types.
Wedge Ramps
Designed to be used for
basic skating tricks and small jumps, wedge ramps have a simple yet
durable construction. They feature a flat angled plane from where you
can ride your skateboard along a raised edge and perform jumps and
tricks.
Launch Ramps
Although quite similar in
terms of design to the wedge type, launch ramps come with arched
plane that allows you to perform more demanding tricks and jumps. Due
to the mild vertical shift of the plane, a launch ramp can be the
ideal choice for doing higher jumps. Their gradual shape is great for
practising moderate flips since it give the skater the required
amount of lift for doing such tricks safely and with little hustle.
Tower Ramps
Designed to act as a
speeding ramp for tricks that involve jumping to several
skateboarding ramps, the tower model has durable construction and is
meant to be quite tall so as to provide the skater with the enhanced
speed for doing bigger, more demanding jumps. They feature a large
arched foundation along with a flat deck where you can stand on while
preparing to do your jumps.
Bowls
Due to their practical
design and strong construction, bowls can be used for performing all
kinds of jumps and tricks. They have a curved shape that resembles a
swimming pool and can often feature special grinding rails on the
edges that further expand the number of tricks you can do on them.
