So how to avoid your protein shaker getting rancid? Basic things first!

1. Use Steel Wool

Considered a hardcore cleaning product, a steel wool is ideal to be used to clean a shaker. Due to its abrasive texture, it can clean any small traces of protein powder without scratching the surface of the shaker. As usual, use a liquid detergent, and make sure you dry the shaker well.

2. Use Baking Powder

If you don't know yet, baking powder is one of the most useful products for cleaning. But it also works wonder as a natural deodorizer. Simply add a teaspoon into your shaker with some warm water, give the mix a quick shake and you are all done.

3. Use Vinegar

While many can't stand the smell of vinegar, but its cleaning powers are amazing.

  • Add a kettle full of boiling water and a cup of vinegar to a bowl.
  • Put all the parts of your shaker into the bowl and cover.
  • After an hour, remove the shaker from the water.

4. Use an Effervescent Cleaner

Like a glass, a shaker also has corners that can be a nightmare to clean and dry. By using a tablet cleaner, you avoid the shape.

5. Get a New Protein Shaker

While this tip might seem a bit wasteful, but if your protein shaker gets too smelly to a point that none of the solutions above work, then it makes sense to buy a new one. Usually, protein shakers don't cost a lot of money and you may be able to get on sale. But don't just throw away your old shaker. Instead, use it for something else like, to store pens, screws, or as a vase for flowers.
