E-Scooter Accessories for Increasing Safety & Adding a Personal Touch

If you are into e-scooters you can be a member of two clubs. The first one is full of all those DIY maniacs that want to put every screw in their ride by themselves. The second is reserved for those unimpressed by a scooter that shows a degree of individuality and go straight for completes.

What if you’re in no man’s land? If you want to have a complete delivered to your door, but still want to show everyone that it is not just any e-scooter? That this is your scooter regardless of how complete it was when you got. Don’t let them fool you: a scooter is never complete until you make your mark on it. Here are some scooter accessories to help you leave your own personal mark.

Grip Tape

Grip Tape Removal and Installation

Nothing gives individuality to your scooter like scooter grip tapes. It's a great solution because it can be applied almost immediately.

Scooter grip tapes can be added to any scooter. You can add them to a new complete fresh out of the box. Or you can outfit a deck that has sizable mileage, to give it some new vibe. You can make a fresh mark on your deck to forget about an ordeal from the past, like a fall that hurt your knee. Plus, an individual design can be a great conversation starter with e scooter enthusiasts or other people you meet on the road.

Now, there are different styles of scooter grip tapes: graffiti, clear, striped, graphics or branded. If you wanna be extremely unique, a snowflake among e-scooter owners, you can custom make your own by combining more than one design. This is possible because of the way the tape is attached to the deck.

Before you apply the new tape, you need to remove the old one. This is best done with a hairdryer. Heat the edges and peel it off. The second step is to cut the grip tape to loosely match the sides. Have a helping hand for precise application and then smooth the edges with sandpaper.

If you want to combine two tapes you will need to go through this process twice. First, you apply the base, and then the upper layer cut in the shape of your unique design.

Phone Holder

Adding a phone holder to your scooter can be very helpful. If you want to check your location on a GPS map, and you don’t have a phone holder, then you will have to let go of the handlebars. There are a whole dozen of risks associated with it. Nowadays phone holders are easy to install on the handlebar. So you can go for one and keep safe while riding.

Bar Grips

Speaking of handlebars, there is a way to make them your own. Your hands stay on the grips most of the time. Even if you were initially satisfied with them, you might need to change them due to wear. And this can be overwhelming since there are all those materials starting with foam and ending with all sorts of plastic.

In terms of style, you can really up your game with well-designed grips. It also relates to the overall look you wanna project. You can go for flashy colours, or, you know, you can go for neutrals.

Lock

Scooter Lock

Locks make your scooter your own, quite literally. Without a lock, it can easily become someone else’s scooter. In fact, vandalism and theft are some of the biggest threats to the success of the e- scooter industry.

There are different styles of locks you can use for your scooter. And this refers mostly to their function and not to their looks. Many riders use chain locks. Those, along with cable locks are not your safest bet because they can be easily cut.

To secure your scooter in a public place you can go for a U-lock. They are sturdy and tougher to break. And if you want to go pro on safety you can use disc brake rotor lock. It will not only scare off any potential thief, but it will undoubtedly make their task very hard as the disc disables movement of the wheel.

Accent Lights

Additional visibility is always welcome on the street. So you can start with accent lights due to safety concerns. I'm not talking about headlight here. Nor about rear ones. We are talking about long, flashy contraptions. You can take LED light strips and attach them to the sides of your deck or to the stem of your handlebar. No one will miss your scooter. It is good for you when you ride. It will be good for you once you stop.

Bike Horn

I guess this depends much on your type of personality. If you are a joker, or if you don’t mind being the joker once in a while, there is one accessory that will announce your scooter from far. Yes, we are talking about an old fashioned honker. It will surely gather some laughs. Just make sure your crew is laughing with you and not at you.

And in case your personality is more subdued, but you still wanna stand out in terms of sound signals, you can go for a bike horn. They can be adjusted to any handlebar. If you get a good one it will be heard by anyone in transit around you. So, a horn can also increase your safety on the road while making your scooter unique.
