The Difference Between DisplayPort and HDMI

We live in a modern age where advanced devices and technologies make things a lot easier. Each day new and improved products make their appearance on the market. And this trend is certainly not going to stop any time soon. There is no doubt the constant evolution of technology brings many changes in every aspect of human life.

Although this amazing evolution has brought many benefits for most people the whole world of technology is often quite confusing. All this is certainly not surprising since with an array of different technologies and special standards to follow picking the best and most efficient devices can be a daunting task. However, doing a little researcher and gathering useful information is the first step to finding the right path on the vast and confusing map called technology. In this article we will discuss the features of Mini Display Port HDMI, as well as make a distinction between the Display Port and the HDMI interface.

As the most popular digital connection, the HDMI audio-video interface can be found in a wide range of devices including TVs, gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, digital cameras, and is also commonly used in some models of smartphones. Most laptops and desktop computers these days include a HDMI input as well. Display Port is also found in many advanced models of laptops and video cards. Both of these come with different features and advantages.

Nowadays, there are many types of Display Port and HDMI cables and adapters that differ in size and configuration. Particularly popular model are Mini DisplayPort HDMI adapters that come with both audio/video standards and can be used for a variety of devices. They are specifically designed to send high-definition digital audio and video.

On the market you can find three main models of HMDI adapters and every model has 19 pins. Projectors, TVs, laptops and set-top boxes have the standard HMDI also known as Type A, while tablets and some laptop models incorporate the mini-HDMI which is smaller in size. The smallest of these is the micro-HDMI which is usually found in smartphones and some models of tablets. The Mini Display Port HDMI adapter on the other hand comes with 20 pins and enables you to connect an DVI, HDMI as well as VGA display to different video outputs including the Mini Display Port and Thunderbolt.

As for performance, one Display Port is configured to provide support to a maximum number of four displays where each of the connected monitors will independently receive video and audio streams. HDMI on the other hand is more limited in this regard since it can only be used for a single display which means it is designed to handle a single video and audio stream.
